Bedford Youth Lacrosse

2012 Season Evaluation Day – Feb 21st

The BYLA will be holding annual evaluations for the teams shown below on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Sportsplex. This date will take place during our normally scheduled Skills Session. If you are not trying out you will have this session off. Rec. players will have their regular session as normal.

If your son or daughter is interested in trying out for the team within their age group they must register with the Club. Players that do not make the rosters they are trying out for or choose not to be evaluated will be placed on a team based on what is known of their skills and experience. All players will make a team that are currently registered.

2012 Evaluation Schedule

Boys  U15A                           6-7pm
           U13A (2 teams)          6-7pm
U11 Travel*                 5-6pm       (open to all 9 and 10 year olds. Younger players must be approved for travel by the Coaching Coordinator)

*There will be a Competitive and Non-competitive division again this year for U11 Boy’s in NHYLA. Those players that do not make the Competitive team will default to the Non-competitive team and still play a travel schedule. Depending on how many boys elect to try out will determine whether or not BYLA submits a third U11 travel team.

Girls               U11 Travel**   5-6pm        (open to all 9 and 10 year olds. Younger players must be approved for travel by the Coaching Coordinator)

** The GU11 age group within NHYLA does not separate into Competitive and Non-competitive divisions like the boys. Instead, multiple teams must be split into evenly skilled rosters and will play other travel teams from other towns. Depending on how many girls elect to try out will determine whether or not BYLA submits one or two teams.

The Girls U15 and U13 rosters are full and will not be holding evaluations. Late registrations will be placed on a wait list.

Please make sure you are registering for the evaluations. To prepare for this event properly we must have an idea of who is electing to be evaluated for these teams. Walk on registrations are discouraged.

Email Roger Howe at president@bedfordcannons.org to register.

Contact the appropriate coaching coordinator if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT TEAM INFORMATION FOR 2010!

Parents and Players,

BOYS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for a U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. The evaluation for the two teams we will field in NHYLA is February 16th at NH Sportsplex at 5:00pm. The two teams will be split evenly with an equal number of experienced and less experienced players. There is no A, B, or C classification in this age group. However, because there are only two experienced head coaches available for this group we will only have 40 spots for two teams. Players that are evaluated and are not placed on a travel team will be placed on one of our eight Rec. teams. Any player in this age group that does not wish to be considered for a travel team will be guaranteed a spot on one of the teams in our Rec. program.

Boys playing in the U13 and age groups that wish to tryout for the “A” or “B” teams must submit their intentions via email to Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org) before the February 16th tryout at NH Sportsplex. Time of the tryout will be at 6:00 pm. There will be three teams this year in each division, an A, B, and C. All registered players as of February 1st that are not on a wait-list are guaranteed a spot on one of these three teams. Once the A and B team is chosen the remaining C team will be formed.

If you have questions you may contact Mike Desroche (mdesroche@insadjserv.com) our Boy’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

GIRLS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for the U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. This team will be comprised of players from all four of our Rec. teams. The team will have an extra practice each week and play an NHYLA league game on Sundays. The players will also have their regular Rec. team practice each week and play their Rec. team games on Saturday morning.

Players in the U13 age group that wish to be considered for the “A” team must send their intentions to do so to us by February 16th. The tryout time for this team will be 6:00pm at NH Sportsplex. There will be two teams, an A and a C, in this group and all players registered are guaranteed a spot on one of these teams.

The U15 team will be playing as an “A” level team and still has several openings.

If you have questions you may contact TJ Karanasios (tj@sportsandrehab.com) our Girl’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

THE PROCESS:

The evaluations (U11) and the tryouts (U13 and U15) are conducted with the help of experienced and skilled lacrosse evaluators. Each team is assigned two evaluators that are NOT affiliated with the team they are evaluating and are for the most part outside the BYLA program. The head coach for each team is the third evaluator and has final decision-making power on players that have been evaluated with equal skills and athletic talent. If a player is not at the evaluation/tryout, he/she will be placed based on the coaching staff’s knowledge of their abilities.

An added consideration is made in the U11 program where a player’s size and safety may enter into what team he/she may end up on.

UPDATE: Goalie clinic to include GIRLS!

Attention: We have made arrangements to expand the goalie clinic to include GIRLS! NH Tomahawks co-director, Derryfield School head coach and former Boston Cannons goaltender, Chris Hettler will be providing the BYLA program a clinic on goaltending technique and proper play of the position.

If you are interested in becoming a goaltender or have basic interest and wish to explore the position please send an email to Roger Howe at rbh2lax@comcast.net. This is a tremendous opportunity and we are fortunate to have such a resource so close to Bedford.

More information will follow. We will be finalizing this date shortly. Contact BYLA as soon as possible.
