Bedford Youth Lacrosse

We’re still holding Skills practice today

Good afternoon parents and Players,

In spite of the bad weather earlier today, we will keep this session of the Skills practice open today. The storm is winding down according to all reports and the radar. Sportsplex has insured me that the parking lots and entrances will be cleared.

Since it is almost a certainty that the schools will be closed tomorrow we will want to make sure we are running the kids hard tonight so they will sleep in late tomorrow keeping our homes nice a quiet for a while!

Please be safe as you venture out and do not trek out onto the roads if you do not feel safe. No one is penalized for not showing up

The Skills Session for this evening is canceled!

Parents and players,

The Skills Session for this evening is canceled. The complex entrance and parking lot will not be safe nor does the weather look like it will make the roads any safer than they are now.

We will err on the side of caution and reschedule this session for another date toward the end of the program run.

Be Safe!

Start of the 2011 Season

Parents and Players,

We begin the 2011 season this Tuesday with the start of our annual Skills Sessions. These sessions are included in your 2011 Spring fee for Bedford Youth Lacrosse and do not require any action on your part to sign up. By default you are already signed up and simply need to show up and begin your session.

Age group start times:
U11 (this includes travel candidates and Rec.) 5:00-6:00 pm
U13 and U15 6:00-7:00 pm

Boys will report to the new building (the first building you see as you approach Sportsplex) for check in and field assignment .
Girls will report to the older building (the smaller, second building as you enter) for check in and field assignment.

If you have not registered at all or your payment has not been received, you will not be able to take the field.

Please make sure you bring plenty of water.

Boys: Players should be fully equipped (helmet, arm pads/guards, shoulder pads, gloves, stick) and ready to play. Mouth-guards and athletic cups are mandatory. NO PLAYER WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD UNLESS THE PLAYER IS WEARING THESE TWO ITEMS. Helmets should also be adjusted and fitting properly.

Girls: Players should have mouth-guards and eye protection. NO PLAYER WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD UNLESS THE PLAYER IS WEARING THESE TWO ITEMS.

IMPORTANT TEAM INFORMATION FOR 2010!

Parents and Players,

BOYS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for a U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. The evaluation for the two teams we will field in NHYLA is February 16th at NH Sportsplex at 5:00pm. The two teams will be split evenly with an equal number of experienced and less experienced players. There is no A, B, or C classification in this age group. However, because there are only two experienced head coaches available for this group we will only have 40 spots for two teams. Players that are evaluated and are not placed on a travel team will be placed on one of our eight Rec. teams. Any player in this age group that does not wish to be considered for a travel team will be guaranteed a spot on one of the teams in our Rec. program.

Boys playing in the U13 and age groups that wish to tryout for the “A” or “B” teams must submit their intentions via email to Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org) before the February 16th tryout at NH Sportsplex. Time of the tryout will be at 6:00 pm. There will be three teams this year in each division, an A, B, and C. All registered players as of February 1st that are not on a wait-list are guaranteed a spot on one of these three teams. Once the A and B team is chosen the remaining C team will be formed.

If you have questions you may contact Mike Desroche (mdesroche@insadjserv.com) our Boy’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

GIRLS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for the U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. This team will be comprised of players from all four of our Rec. teams. The team will have an extra practice each week and play an NHYLA league game on Sundays. The players will also have their regular Rec. team practice each week and play their Rec. team games on Saturday morning.

Players in the U13 age group that wish to be considered for the “A” team must send their intentions to do so to us by February 16th. The tryout time for this team will be 6:00pm at NH Sportsplex. There will be two teams, an A and a C, in this group and all players registered are guaranteed a spot on one of these teams.

The U15 team will be playing as an “A” level team and still has several openings.

If you have questions you may contact TJ Karanasios (tj@sportsandrehab.com) our Girl’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

THE PROCESS:

The evaluations (U11) and the tryouts (U13 and U15) are conducted with the help of experienced and skilled lacrosse evaluators. Each team is assigned two evaluators that are NOT affiliated with the team they are evaluating and are for the most part outside the BYLA program. The head coach for each team is the third evaluator and has final decision-making power on players that have been evaluated with equal skills and athletic talent. If a player is not at the evaluation/tryout, he/she will be placed based on the coaching staff’s knowledge of their abilities.

An added consideration is made in the U11 program where a player’s size and safety may enter into what team he/she may end up on.

2010 Registration is Live!

Players and Parents,

I hope your Fall is going well. I want to thank the members that attended the Membership Meeting last Thursday night at McKelvie. The discussions were productive and informative. I also want to inform the membership that the following officers to the Board were elected at the Membership Meeting as well.

The newly elected officers will hold their positions for the next year.

Please remember that our rosters again will be limited and slots will be reserved on each team on a first come first served basis. Bedford Cannons 2009 Fall Ball program for Lacrosse

Parents and Players,

Here are the details for the 2009 Fall Ball program for Lacrosse at NH Sportsplex.

U-9 (loosely defined as 7 and 8 year olds),

3rd and 4th graders

5th and 6th graders

7th and 8th graders

There will be a team at each level, boys and girls, provided a minimum of ten players sign-up for each team. I would like to cap the rosters size at 13 players. This will allow enough playing time for all and cover a short roster if we don’t have all players show up for a game. Since the roster sizes will be limited I encourage you to get your registration into me ASAP.

This program is not open to high school players.

Girls will play on Friday evenings starting at 6:00pm

Boys will play on Saturday afternoon starting at 1:00pm

These days and times were chosen with football, soccer and cheerleading in mind. It was decided that out of all the possibilities, these will work best for those families that wish to participate and not have conflicts with games or practices.

The format will be 7 on 7 (2 attack, 2 middies, 2 defensemen and a goalie, girls will be a similar make-up). Standard indoor rules apply. Referees will be controlling the games and standings will be kept.

The schedule will begin September 11th (girls) and September 12th (boys) and will commence eight weeks later on October 30th and 31st. A playoff possibility is being discussed for the following weekend of November 6th and 7th.

For more information go to: http://www.nhsportsplex.com/udp.php?id=19

Fees: 75.00 per player. Checks should be made out to NH Sportsplex.

Please fill out the form from NH Sportsplex linked below and send it to the address below. If you send it to NH Sportsplex you may not end up on a Bedford team. Circle “Fall” and disregard the 99.00 fee. I will organize the teams and get the fees sent to Sportsplex so that our teams are registered as a unit.

Please send the form to:
